Storage Doctor privacy policy

Storage Doctor for WhatsApp (“the app”) is made by Mazze Studios. This policy explains what the app does with your information. The short version: your files and chats never leave your phone. The app uses the internet only for purchases and, in the free version, for ads.

What the app does

The app helps you find large and old WhatsApp media files and delete the ones you choose. To do this it reads the WhatsApp (or WhatsApp Business) media folder that you select through Android’s folder picker.

What the app can see

  • Only the folder you pick. The app has no access to the rest of your storage.
  • For each file in that folder: its name, size, type and date, so it can sort and suggest files. When you open a preview, the app reads that one file to show it on screen.
  • For the Pro features (duplicate finder, similar and blurry photos), the app reads parts of your files on the phone to compare them. Only a short fingerprint is kept on the phone. The files, their names and the fingerprints are never uploaded.
  • The app does not open your chats, messages, contacts, calls or WhatsApp databases and backups.

What is stored on your phone

  • The list of files from the last scan (names, sizes, dates, category) and, if you use Pro scans, the results and fingerprints, kept in a private database inside the app.
  • Your settings, such as the theme, the reminder and smart check-up choices and which folders you connected.
  • A small total of how much space the app has freed, shown on the home screen.
  • Whether Pro is unlocked, so it keeps working offline.

This data stays in the app’s private storage on your phone. It is removed when you clear the app’s data or uninstall the app.

Purchases (Pro)

Pro is a one-time purchase made through Google Play. We use Adapty (Adapty Tech, Inc.) to manage the purchase and to show the purchase screen. Adapty and Google Play process:

  • your purchase history for this app (what you bought and when, and whether it was refunded or restored);
  • an anonymous profile identifier that Adapty creates for the app installation, and basic device and app details such as the app version, device model, Android version and language.

We do not give Adapty your name or email, your files, file names or anything from the folder you picked. Your payment details are handled by Google Play and never reach us. See Adapty’s privacy policy at https://adapty.io/privacy-policy and Google’s at https://policies.google.com/privacy.

Ads (free version)

The free version shows ads from Google AdMob (Google LLC). Pro removes them, and Pro users’ devices do not load the ads software or request ads.

To show and measure ads, Google and its partners may collect and use your device’s advertising ID, IP address (for an approximate location), device and app information, and how you interact with ads. We do not send Google your files, file names or anything from your WhatsApp folder.

  • Where the law requires it (for example in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom), the app asks for your consent with Google’s consent message before any ad is requested. You can change your choice later in Settings, under “Ad privacy” when it is shown.
  • You can reset or delete your advertising ID, or turn off ad personalization, in your Android settings (Settings, Google, Ads).
  • Ads appear only in the places listed in the app: Check-up, the Clean tab and category screens (a card), above the bottom navigation on the Clean tab and in Settings (a banner), and an optional video you choose to watch before saving files to your gallery. They are never shown while you scan or delete, on the purchase screen, or during setup.

What the app does not do

  • It does not upload your files, file names, chats or anything from your WhatsApp folder.
  • It has no accounts and no analytics or crash reporting of its own.
  • It does not sell your data.
  • It does not collect your location, contacts or photos outside the folder you chose.

The app deletes a file only after you confirm it on the confirmation screen, and only inside the folder you selected. It never deletes folders. Deleted files are removed from your phone and cannot be restored by the app. In WhatsApp, deleted items show as no longer available on this phone. Your messages are not changed.

With Pro you can save chosen photos and videos to your gallery (Android 10 and later). This copies them on the phone, into the Pictures or Movies folder under “Storage Doctor”. It never deletes the original.

Notifications

If you turn on the monthly reminder or the Pro weekly smart check-up, the app shows a notification on your phone. It is created on the phone itself. No push service and no server is involved. You can turn them off in Settings or in Android’s notification settings.

Permissions

  • Folder access: granted by you through Android’s folder picker, for the one folder you choose. You can remove it in the app’s Settings or in Android settings.
  • Notifications: used only for the optional reminder and smart check-up.
  • Internet and network state: used only for purchases (Google Play and Adapty) and for ads in the free version.
  • Google Play billing: used to buy and restore Pro.
  • Advertising ID: used by Google AdMob in the free version.
  • Start after restart and background work: used by Android so the reminder and weekly check-up keep working after the phone restarts.

Your choices and rights

You can use the app without Pro and decline personalised ads. You can reset your advertising ID in Android settings. To ask about or delete the purchase data Adapty holds for your installation, or for any other privacy request, contact us at the address below and include the app version shown in Settings. Depending on where you live you may have further rights under local law, such as access, correction and deletion.

Children

The app is a general utility and is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published at the same address with a new date.
