Birthday Reminder & Widget privacy policy
This privacy policy applies to the Birthday Reminder & Widget or Birthday Bell app (hereby referred to as “Application”) for mobile devices that was created by Mazze Studios (hereby referred to as “Service Provider”) as a Commercial service. This service is intended for use “AS IS”.
What the app stores, and where
Birthday Bell stores the birthdays you add (names, dates, optional phone number, email, notes, gift ideas and photos), your reminder settings, and your own name and birthday if you enter them. All of it is saved only on your device, inside the app’s private storage.
- There are no accounts and no sign-in.
- The app has no servers of its own and never uploads your birthdays, contacts, calendar, photos or notes.
- There are no analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no crash-reporting services.
- Device backups are turned off for the app: its data is not copied to Google Drive or moved to a new phone by Android’s backup or transfer tools.
Birthday Bell Pro: purchases and RevenueCat
Birthday Bell is free, with an optional one-time purchase called Birthday Bell Pro. To handle it the app uses two services, so it has the Android internet permission (and the Google Play billing permission):
- Google Play takes the payment. Birthday Bell never sees your card or payment details. Google’s own privacy policy applies to the payment.
- RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc.) is a service that checks with Google Play whether this device has bought Pro, so Pro unlocks and can be restored on a new phone. It acts for us as a service provider.
When the app starts, and when you view the Pro screen, buy or restore, the app talks to RevenueCat. What it receives is limited to:
- a random anonymous identifier that RevenueCat creates for the installation (not linked to your name, email, Google account or anything you entered in the app);
- purchase information from Google Play: the product, the purchase token and time, and whether Pro is active;
- basic technical information that any internet connection carries or that the purchase SDK adds: your IP address, the device platform and Android version, the app version, and the language or country setting.
It does not receive your birthdays, names, phone numbers, emails, notes, photos, contacts or calendar. We do not use this information for advertising or sell it. RevenueCat’s handling of it is described in its privacy policy: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy.
The app keeps a small note on your phone saying whether Pro is active, so Pro keeps working offline. Everything else in the app works without a connection.
Permissions and why they are asked for
Each permission is requested only when you use the feature that needs it, and you can refuse it; the rest of the app keeps working.
| Permission | Used for | What happens to the data |
|---|---|---|
| Notifications | Birthday reminders | Reminders are scheduled locally on your phone. |
| Alarms and reminders (exact alarms) | Reminders at the exact time you chose | Local only. |
| Contacts (read only) | “Import from contacts”: finds birthdays saved in your contacts | Read on the device. Only the people you choose to import are saved in the app. The app never changes your contacts and never sends them anywhere. |
| Contact picker | “Choose from contacts” on the Add birthday form | Choose from contacts uses Android’s contact picker; the app receives only the contact you pick. If Android asks for the Contacts permission to read that contact, the same rules as above apply. |
| Calendar (read only) | “Import from calendar”: finds birthday events | Read on the device. Only the events you choose are saved in the app. The app never changes your calendar and never sends it anywhere. |
| Microphone | The digital candle: blowing on the phone puts the candle out | Used only on the candle screen to detect blowing; audio is processed on the device, never recorded, saved or sent. The microphone turns off when you leave the screen. You can use the tap button instead. |
| Photos (system photo picker) | A photo for a person | The photo you pick is copied into the app’s private storage. |
| Internet and network state | Checking and restoring a Pro purchase (see above) | Only the purchase information described above; never your birthday data. |
| Google Play billing | Buying Birthday Bell Pro | Handled by Google Play. |
| Vibration, run at startup, keep awake | Haptic feedback; re-scheduling reminders after the phone restarts; finishing reminder work | No data involved. |
Sharing you start yourself
Some actions hand information to another app only when you tap them: sending a wish (WhatsApp, Telegram, Messages, email), calling someone, adding a birthday to your calendar app, sharing an invite, or saving or sharing an export file. What happens next is governed by the app or place you chose. Birthday Bell itself never sends your birthday data anywhere.
Backup files. “Export birthdays” creates a JSON file with your birthdays, reminders, gift ideas and settings (not photos) and saves it where you choose. Keep it somewhere safe: anyone with the file can read it. You can also export a CSV spreadsheet (names, dates, phone numbers, emails, notes and gift ideas) or a calendar file (names and birthdays only), and save them or share them with an app you choose; the same care applies. A backup file never contains Pro status, so restoring one cannot unlock or remove Pro.
Ratings
Occasionally, after you have used the app a while, it may ask whether you would like to rate it. This uses Google Play’s own review dialog; Google Play, not Birthday Bell, handles anything you enter there.
